What is a CONCEPT THEME?

A Concept theme is a theme that is created based on a concept of “big idea”.

They are often developed, with student input, over long periods of time and are effective as all school themes as well as classroom studies.

My students and I have effectively worked with concepts such as:

Incredible Journeys

Survival

Cycles

Change

Conflict

and much more.

The concept is the Umbrella...

under which all learning takes place.

This is an opportunity to carry the theme into social studies, science, economics, health etc. by using reading, writing, speaking, listening, thinking, viewing , producing and the arts.
