These call upon you to invest time in your wellbeing:
Diet
Super Teachers eat healthy food!
I find that I need a protein snack midmorning, that sugar takes me down and that if I keep my proteins and carbohydrates in balance, I don’t get tired and irritable.
What about you?
Food is fuel!
Are you giving your body high power or low octane?
I prefer premium and so does my body.
Water
Super Teachers know the benefits of drinking water.
For years I drank oodles of water as a way to stay away from eating, but I am realizing that the purification that water does is far more important.
You wouldn’t dream or running your washing machine with too little water or recycling dirty water in order to clean your clothes.
Super Teachers, keeping hydrated helps your body purify your cells effectively and get rid of the poisons that you take in through out the day.
Sleep
It is amazing what a good night’s sleep will do!
I read before I go to bed in order to sleep without the thoughts of the day cluttering my mind.
The other thing that I find helps is to write a list of things that are weighing on my mind and leave it on my desk.
This way you have “given them up” and your mind doesn’t work all night trying to hold onto them.
If you do wake up with a great solution to something, keep a tablet and pen by your bedside; quickly write it down and then go back to sleep.
Some of my most creative solutions have come during the night, when my brain is free to solve them without my interference.
Exercise
The big “E"!
For some of you exercise is a natural part of your daily routine.
I struggle with wanting to sweat and to make scheduling it a priority.
One way I work on this is by wearing a pedometer and setting a goal each day for the number of steps I achieve.
If bedtime comes and I don’t have in my “steps” I make a choice whether to walk or not.
Some days I do and some I don’t… it is a guilt free choice.
The pedometer encourages you to park further away, walk to more places and integrate walking into my day.
This works for me, as I have trouble disciplining myself to “stop” and exercise.
Super Teachers stay active!
Pamper
Super Teachers know when to be served.
Just look at Batman and his Butler, if you doubt it.
This can take many forms.
For me it is a pedicure and manicure every few weeks.
For you it may be a massage.
It could be a restful stroll.
It could be hiring in someone to clean the house.
It could be a mini vacation.
Find at least one way to pamper you.
Mini Vacations
I discovered this years ago when my children were little and a vacation was not a relaxing time.
I loved vacationing with the family, but it didn’t necessarily allow me to return rested.
So, I created mini-vacations!
5 minute trips into relaxation.
For instance:
• stopping alone to gaze at a blazing sunrise.
• pulling over on your way to work to watch a gaggle of geese foraging in a farmer’s field.
• inhaling deeply when you pass a vineyard full of ripe grapes and letting the aroma fill you with the joy of harvest.
As you can see these mini-vacations don’t take any planning or expense.
But they reap calm, serenity and rest for my mind body and soul.
What a treat!
For years I have deliberately watched for opportunities to “stop and smell the roses”.
Try it! Even Superman took Lois Lain to admire the view.
You the Super Teacher can too!
Remember, you are an abundant and dedicated person with many gifts and talents and much to offer the children in your charge and your colleagues as you venture into the world together.
Sparkle with abundance as you seek to bring out the abundance in all around you.
Let your light shine by following the wise mans words:
"Look well into thyself; there is a source of strength which will always spring up if thou wilt always look there.
