What is a TOPIC THEME?

Topic themes work well in the short haul.
They give students and teachers an opportunity to dig deeper into an area of interest.
Teaching becomes responsive to student input through beginning the unit with a poll of “What do we know?” and “What do we want to know?”
As the theme develops the answers become clear as to “How will we learn the information?”and “What have we learned?”
Teachers become resources by gathering literature and assisting students in “Knowing what they don’t know” and facilitating that learning.
Objectives are established based on process, content, and products.
An interwoven fabric of literature, content, skills development and response is created by the class as they work together delves into a common topic.
My students and I have joyfully worked with:
Pirates
Dinosaurs
Owls
Whales
the Ocean
Creepy Crawlies/Bugs
All About Me
and many more.
