Why Save the Teacher?

"Save the teacher", what a timely and unique concept. Educators today are in need of saving, like an endangered species.

Have you ever felt that way?

As I, Phyllis Ferguson, work as an educational consultant, a literacy coach, reading specialist and as a classroom teacher, I find that you, as an educator, are discouraged. You are wondering:

“Why am I here?"

"Did I really make the right decision to go into education?"

"Am I really making a difference in the lives of these kids?”

Isn’t that why you went into education? Because you wanted to make a difference!

I know I certainly did. I wanted to impact kids, just as my redeemer-teacher did back in fourth grade. She taught me that everyday, in every way I could empower every single child in my classroom.

To help them see their abundance and encouraging them to capitalize on it.

To build a successful present and a bright future.

She unselfishly shared that gift with me and I wanted to give it to all my students.

Now I want to give that gift to you!

Phyllis is an inspiration. Her passion for children, learning and teaching are apparent. She shares pearls of wisdom and the “roses and thorns” that come along with the profession. Her excitement and honesty helped me get excited for the upcoming school year.”

Kathleen Mateas --- Primary teacher

Are you tired of being burdened, overwhelmed, discouraged and exhausted?

• Burdened with a desire to meet numerous student needs while being overwhelmed by the demands of meaningless and purposeless curriculum.

Discouraged by assessments that don’t inform your instruction and accountability which weighs heavily on your spirit.

• Pendulum swings push you from one extreme to another as you are encouraged to embrace the “newest greatest innovation” whether it is supported by best practice, developmental appropriateness or sound research.

• You are exhausted; weary from striving to survive the flood of paperwork.

• Time has become your enemy and your professional judgment and decision-making are doubted and often jeered.

How do you teach a 21st century classroom education and confront FEAR at the same time?

In our post 9-11 culture, you are confronting FEAR as an ever-present force in the classroom.

Children and adults alike are living lives in which everyone is suspect. They can’t trust others.

This lack of security influences behavior and community building, thus affecting learning and teaching.

You also fear the top-down edicts that are replacing academic freedom.

You fear that your expertise is no longer valued nor required.

These emotional traumas are draining you and your colleagues.

Teaching doesn’t have to be this way!

I am here to tell you, you DO NOT have to succumb under these burdens.

You have the POWER within you to be SUPER TEACHER.

Just as Clark Kent runs into a phone booth and emerges as Super Man flying into Metropolis, you have it within you to emerge as Super Teacher.

Your power is the belief that you make a difference and the desire to activate that belief in your classroom everyday.

So, how can YOU emerge as
Super Teacher?

At Save-the-Teacher.com you will find everything you need to encourage, inspire and support you and your students in your classroom.
